CITY OF BESSEMER, ALABAMA
Featured
The Birmingham-Southern College Urban Environmental Studies Program is working with the City of Bessemer and the Silver Boomers to develop the Bessemer Collective Memory Project. BSC Urban Sociology students are conducting interviews to collect information on the personal memories of people growing up in Bessemer.

The purpose of the study is to examine how people recall the city’s past as part of their own history and what parts of these memories they pass along to their children. Data from this interview will be used in the development of video archive with the City of Bessemer as well as for articles on this topic.

There is no compensation for participating in this study. However, the interview will assist in developing an oral history of the city of Bessemer.

Those who are interested in participating can contact Jake Ogle at jcogle@bsc.edu or Dr. William Holt at wholt@bsc.edu. The deadline for this project is Friday, December 9. Interviews will be taken through December 8.

If you have further questions about this project or if you have a research-related problem, you may contact the co-principle investigator, Dr. Holt at 205-226-4834 or at wholt@bsc.edu.
