Free concerts to end the summer in Bessemer

Jazz in the Park concerts have attracted hundreds of visitors to DeBardeleben Park over the past two years.

Two free concerts are coming to Bessemer this month. The city of Bessemer has teamed with a local radio station and Magic City Smooth Jazz to sponsor two free concerts in DeBardeleben Park to end the summer. The first concert is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 12, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. It will be hosted by 98.7 Kiss FM as part of the station’s 20th Anniversary. The Neighborhood Park Party will feature local talent such as Clinton Babers and Jaden Henderson. Pepsi, Little Caesars and Frito Lay are serving as sponsors. The second concert will be the third annual Jazz in the Park Concert in Bessemer. The city began partnering with Magic City Smooth Jazz in 2015 to host the free jazz concerts. An estimated 1,000 people have turned out annually for the concerts at DeBardeleben park in Bessemer. This year’s event will start at 6 p.m. on  Sunday, Aug. 20. Featured performers will be Daniel “Jose” Carr and On Purpose, featuring Dwight Houston. Food vendors will be present, so feel free to invite a friend for a great afternoon of jazz in The Marvel City.
