The Honorable Councilor Cleophus King was born and raised in Bessemer, Alabama.
It was in Bessemer where Cleophus learned about the importance of community and instilled with the spirit of compassion and respect for all people. It was in Bessemer where he discovered the call to public service and to be an advocate on behalf of the people.
A product of Bessemer City Schools and a current student at the University of Phoenix majoring in Business Management, Cleophus knows the importance of providing our youth with adequate tools to cultivate their talents.
Cleophus worked with neighbors to organize their community to institute a neighborhood watch program. He understands that safer communities are the building blocks for a vibrant and prosperous Bessemer. Cleophus is involved in the community as member of Bessemer Citizens for Change, NAACP, Brothers in Christ, 100 Black Men.
Councilor King was elected to serve the constituents of District 7 for a term of four years becoming the youngest ever elected to the Bessemer City Council. Councilor King realizes that doing the right things and asking the right questions will go a long way in demanding the right results. Councilor King will seek development of best practice to provide our youth with keys to success and a quality educational experience.
Councilor King is more eager to work to unleash the enormous potential Bessemer has to remain the Marvel City of West Jefferson County.
