Mission Statement
The mission of the Building and Inspection Services is to plan, direct, and participate in on-site inspections to assure compliance with appropriate building and zoning codes to promote safety and save lives.
Building and Inspection Services:
- Issue building permits;
- Provide information to builders, architects, and the public regarding codes and ordinances;
- Enforce building, zoning, sign, soil erosion, sub-division, flood plan, weed control and other ordinances;
- Monitor reviews of building plans and inspections of residential and commercial buildings to assure compliance with pertinent codes;
- Approve new construction and remodeling projects prior to the start of the projects;
- Sign off on change orders and/or modification of projects;
- Perform quality control inspections to ensure materials and construction methods used in wood frame, electrical, concrete, plastering, plumbing, and masonry projects are adequate;
- Inspection of existing buildings to determine hazardous conditions and the enforcement of city zoning ordinances;
- Investigate and resolve complaints pertaining to building construction; issue citations for code and license violations.
